Feeling at Home

My idea of home is a feeling for the most part. How I feel in my skin, even in the most uncomfortable situations, is what weighs in as priority in daily living.  Knowing that the reality of not having another day like the one we are living currently allows us to dream or maybe even truly appreciate the present.  Spending time with an individual that has somehow understood your essence may be the last moment of its kind and in expressing this sentiment, you remind yourself of the precious life before you.

One Pot Love: Soup

It does not have to be chilly for me to enjoy soup.  In fact, most days, I prefer to have a cup of hot, fragrant and savory soup because of the feeling of home that comes with the consumption of this one pot meal.  As a child, the primary soup in my life was, as for many, sopa de pollo.  I learned to make chicken soup by watching my grandmother in the kitchen, making the broth and chopping the onions, garlic, carrots, and parsley; adding salt and pepper to taste and experiencing joy when the process was complete and the ladle met my bowl. Forgiveness

There are so many things that happen in our lives that make us feel as though we may have been able to do them differently.  Forgiveness is among the elite in this list of areas that we might change.  At times, we are presented with a challenge that perpetuates a decision that we allow to make us feel inadequate, careless, or simply dim.

Non-Verbal Communication

The age of technology makes non-verbal communication a breeze; after all, what will replace texting?  but I am talking about the feeling of connection without words.  This past summer I was on voice rest for what seemed like forever. The eventual use of my vocal cords after having a minor procedure brought me some resolution when I actually did speak once more but also made me appreciate non-verbal communication.
